Installation Note:
When installing anything with an EPDM or silicone O-ring, it needs to be lubricated. This is extremely important when installing reverse osmosis canisters because they need to slide when being seated. It is also imperative that they are not over-tightened. Oftentimes during installation, the O-rings are not lubricate and will they tend to leak because the O-ring can get bunched up. Additionally, the canister can be over-tightened which can cause the threads to separate from the canister. This causes many stress cracks, especially when the threads are broken away from the main canister.
To properly install:
1) Remove the O-ring from the canister.
2) Lubricate the O-ring using a food-grade silicone lubricant (we use Super Lube - this can be purchased at a hardware store; used for lubricating sink aerators). Olive oil can also be used in a pinch.
3) Reinstall the O-ring.
4) Hand-tighten the canister. If it is difficult to hand tighten, do a hand tighten and then 1/8th of a turn.
5) If the canister leaks, make sure that the O-ring is properly seated.
